it felt like magic
I don't know how it happened, but one thing seems to have led to another, and I've somehow decided to stretch my knitting skills, and make some knitted, felted, beaded handbags. I'll also line them and put in zippers, because I like a good secure zipper in all my own personal bags, so my stuff doesn't fall out and scatter all over the grocery store floor. I know that's a good way of meeting cute guys, but I already have one of my very own, so I'll just zip my bag, as it were, thank you very much...
Felting is more magical than I ever imagined. I did a test run this weekend, knitting up a floppy, oversized envelope out of some soft gray wool I had left over from Christmas handwarmers (fingerless gloves - very useful). I threw it in the washing machine with a bit of soap and hot water, and a while later I pulled out a much smaller, softer, sturdier little bag, that now just screams for some fabulous decoration, perhaps a Thai silk lining, and, of course, a zipper.
Could this become something I might do for fun and profit? I have no idea. These sure take a lot longer to make than beads do, but then, it's not really about that is it? Anyway, we'll just have to wait and see. Since it's always true that one thing leads to another, these little bags might just be a quick stop-over. For the moment at least, they're a nice place to visit.

Isn't felting great, I've been making a bunch of felted beaded bags and flower pins. Its just another great way to use fabric and beads together in a piece of wearable art, I'll send you some pictures. Great minds think alike or maybe there's just no new idea under the sun! Have fun with it!!
