New Mexico, USA

This is pretty funny...
I'm in charge of ordering yellow balloons for the Studio Tour in September. So last night I went to balloons.com, found what we need, and clicked the "checkout" button. After jumping through all the usual hoops, I was sent back to correct an error. It wanted me to select a shipping option, but the only choices were various sorts of "international shipping". After going around the same circle several times, I finally realized that something in their software thinks New Mexico is somewhere other than the United States! I sent a note to the company, and found another place to buy my balloons. This morning there was a nice reply from the CEO of balloons.com, assuring me that he is aware of New Mexico's statehood, and that he'll check into the software glitch. Bet he'll be chuckling over this all day like I am...

I've heard of this happening, but it's my first real experience with it, other than people asking me if we needed to learn to speak Spanish because we live here... I guess there's a good reason our license plates clearly say "New Mexico, USA".

Kim,
So funny you should talk about this. When I went to mail your card I went to the grocery store to buy a stamp. The gal asked me if I was mailing it international.....I said,” No New Mexico is one of our states and a very beautiful one!" She was a little embarrassed!

This is the kind of thing that appears on the back page of New Mexico magazine every month in a column called "One of Our Fifty is Missing." You should send this in. I can't believe this still happens!
